Edgar Cayce was born on March 18, 1877, near Hopkinsville,
Kentucky. Cayce was raised in the Christian Church, which was an offshoot
of Presbterianism. He grew to have a great love of the Bible and when he
received his own Bible at the age of ten, he resolved to read the Bible
once through for each year he was alive. This love of the Bible was a main
focal point for his entire life.
He had never asked to be a prophet. It came upon him unexpectedly
once when he was hypnotized. He had lost the use of his voice and his doctors
we unable to help him. A friend suggesting asking his subconscious what
was causing the problem.
He would lie down and put himself into a trance state.
While in this trance state he would not remember anything that he had said.
His wife would ask him questions and he would give the answers, while in
trance. A scribe would keep a record. In the beginning people came to him
for diagnosis for ailments that their doctors could not diagnose. Cayce
would be able to not only give a diagnosis, but would be able to give prescriptions
for treatments.
In some of his health readings, he began to mention karmic
situations for the illness that had its roots in another past life. This
lead to people requesting past life readings. In all the past life readings,
Cayce would only mentions lives and situations that were pertinent to the
life that they were currently living.
He has given over 30,000 diagnosis with quite stunning
accuracy. He only used his ability to prescribe for the sick or to give
spiritual and vocational advice, when asked so specifically. He never sought
fame or appeared publicly. He did not seek wealth. His economic standing
was often quite precarious and never rose above that of modest security.
Cayce himself had questioned the source of the information.
He came to the conclusion that it was doing nobody any harm and was in
fact helping people, so it must have been from a true source.
From age 23 until he died at the age of 67, on January
3, 1945, he had dedicated his life to helping others through his extraordinary
gift. His death was even brought on by overwork trying to finish as many
readings as the requests that came to him.
The core message of the Cayce material would fit nicely
with any religion and is a very good complement to the Bible and Christianity.
Anyone can benefit from the Cayce material within the confines of their
own beliefs systems [Exceprt from Til The Unity of Faith].
