About ABENDing

In a strange world before there were CD’s, cell phones and PC’s there were mainframes. And no mainframes are not my favorite pair of glasses [nods to the original Funky Winkerbean]. For those of you who are old enough to have programmed on one of those mainframe thing-a-bobs, please stand up, if you can, and take a bow. ::Applause::

ABEND simply is an acronym for ABnormal END of program. ABENDs have codes, like SOC7, associated with the abnormal end to help identify why the program ended unexpectedly. There is even a mainframe debugger called Abend Aid.

Sometimes I feel like I am ABENDing through life. I certainly feel that the software that is running on my brain ABENDs quite frequently.
