Poor Lid UI Design
Yesterday, I went with a co-worker to 7-11 to get something to drink. Now, I usually don’t go to 7-11, but I needed to get outside. I got a pumpkin spice latté. It tasted OK for a latté that came out of a spout of a machine. I put the top on the cup and payed for it. On the way back to the office, I noticed that the little sippy hole was plugged. I thought, “Hmm, that’s weird.” Maybe it punches out, converse to logic since that would cause a choking hazard inside the coffee. Nevertheless, I tried pushing it in and it popped back into place. Well, that didn’t work. Then I thought that maybe by some form of physics, tilting the cup and drinking would cause the sippy hole to uncover itself. This sort of worked, if I sucked it through.
It wasn’t until I got back to my desk, sat down and looked at my cup that I notice that there was a piece sticking up at the other end of the lid. It also appeared that you could slide it to the side. Maybe this opened an air hole so that the coffee would come out easier. I slid it to the side and to my amazement it opened the sippy hole. OMG, I sure felt stupid. And in these sort of situations I cover myself by saying, “I do software, not hardware.”
